Sony VAIO T13

The VAIO T13 is Sony's first Ultrabook and manages to impress for its sub-£600 price.

Very affordable ; Original design ; Decent screen

Relatively heavy and ‘fat ; Average keyboard ; Average performance

We have no complaints regarding the touchpad though. While not as large as the massive glass pads on many premium Ultrabooks, it offers a pleasant surface and responsive action, with a nice click to its integrated ‘buttons’.

Sony VAIO T13 review: the company's first Ultrabook targets the back-to-school set

Sony's first Ultrabook boasts a budget-friendly price and an attractive design, but it's not the highest-performing or longest-lasting system out there.

Attractive brushed silver designPriced to competeGood everyday performanceHighly configurable

Uncomfortable keyboardHeavy for an Ultrabook

A budget-friendly Ultrabook is almost an oxymoron. Usually, the thinner the laptop, the higher the price. Solid-state drives and nice-to-have extras like backlit keyboards and high-res displays don't come cheap, either. For an Intel-approved system...

Sony gets touchy with T-series ultrabooks

If you like the idea of having a touch screen on your Windows 8 laptop, the Vaio T13 Touch isn't a bad way to go.

The ; gives you the convenience of a full-size keyboard and touch pad with a responsive touch screen for experiencing the Windows 8-style interface. It has very good performance for its class and excellent battery life.

The T13 Touch doesn't have a backlit keyboard and it's on the heavy side (if you consider 4 pounds heavy). The screen doesn't go fully flat and its hinges aren't stiff enough to handle writing or drawing well.

Sony Vaio T13 Touch review

The Vaio T series is Sony's line of 13.3- and 14-inch ultrabooks that start at a reasonable price of $669. When we reviewed a $799 13.3-inch version of it back in June , we noted that it really didn't stray far from other slim Sony laptops like the...

Sony VAIO T13 (SVT13114GXS)

The Sony VAIO T13 (SVT13114GXS) ($849.99 list) is an all-metal ultrabook that aims at being both attractive and functional for the user that wants more out of his laptop than just a commodity experience. When the price difference between class leader...

Full-size HDMI port. Decent price. Large hard drive. 32GB SSD is larger than rivals. Aluminum and Magnesium construction. 7 hour battery life

Only 30-day subscription to Internet Security. A few bloatware icons on desktop. Slower than systems with non-hybrid SSD. Heavier than rivals. No keyboard backlight. Fan is a little obtrusive

The all-metal Sony VAIO T13 (SVT13114GXS) ultrabook seeks the perfect mix of design, functionality, and performance, and mostly succeeds. However, similarly priced rivals shine just a bit brighter on features and performance.

Review Sony Vaio T13 SVT1312V1ES Ultrabook

Touch-book. Sony is affordable. A real SSD, high-end aluminum chassis and touchscreen for 885 Euros (~$1164). A premium Vaio for little money? ...

Short wake-up times ; Good battery life ; Fast SSD & high application performance ; Very good workmanship ; USB 3.0, VGA and HDMI ; Fair price ; Removable battery ; Easy-to-use touchpad ; Keyboard's good feedback

Low brightness, particularly on battery power ; The edge-to-edge screen's extreme reflectiveness ; Low contrast

The empty 2.5-inch SATA slot lets the hearts of hardware tuners beat faster. The RAM is not soldered and there are two real SODIMM slots. The 13-incher runs for nearly six hours despite the "small" 45 watt hour battery. Kudos

Sony Vaio T13 Touch review: ultraportable laptop with a touch screen

At 1.6kg it's by no means the lightest ultrabook around but it's undoubtedly an ultraportable. You can pick it up quite easily with one hand, and it's just 19mm thick, so you can slip it into a backpack or briefcase and carry it practically everywhere...

There’s no single feature of the T Series 13 that is particularly eye-catching or innovative. However, it does provide you with an ultraportable design with good performance and battery life for well under £800, which – regardless of what you think...
