Sony SmartBand Talk

Tries to do everything without really doing anything

Comfortable, attractive and waterproof ; Beautiful Lifelog app ; E-ink display

Unreliable activity tracking ; Lack of data analysis ; Restrictive phone requirements

The vibrate function can be enabled so it buzzes when your alarm goes off, if you hit a daily target or receive a call or message. It’s strong enough to grab your attention but gentle enough that it doesn’t shock you into spilling whatever you’re...

Sony SmartBand Talk review: A fitness tracker that's actually useful

With its e-ink display showing notifications and its ability to take phone calls, the Sony SmartBand Talk is a useful wristband, even if you don't care about the activity tracking.

The Sony SmartBand Talk's e-ink display makes it easy to see your activity, the time and incoming notifications. The display uses very little power so battery life is pretty good and its ability to take calls comes in handy when you're too busy (or too...

It doesn't have GPS, a heart-rate monitor or the most glamorous design. Sony's Lifelog fitness app keeps track of too much pointless information.

The SmartBand Talk's screen, waterproof design and ability to show your incoming notifications make it a useful piece of tech to wear, even if you're not fussed about keeping track of your activity during the day.

Sony SmartBand Talk ( black)

Sony is hoping the SmartBand Talk will catch your eye, thanks to its easy-to-read e-ink display -- like on a Kindle -- as well as the ability to show notifications and receive phone calls via your phone.

Hands on: Sony SmartBand Talk review: Hands-on

The Sony SmartBand Talk packs an always-on e-paper screen

Sony SmartBand Talk review

Fitness tracker, hands-free caller or full-on smartwatch? Will the real Sony SmartBand Talk please stand up?

e-ink display boosts battery life ; Mercifully simple smart control ; Expand usefulness through apps

e-ink display ghosts between screens ; Woefully inaccurate fitness tracking ; Unresponsive screen button

A likeable smartwatch with calling capabilities disguised as a decidedly average activity tracker

Sony SmartBand Talk review: Jack of all trades, master of none

Sony isn't a new player in the world of wearables, it was one of the first companies to kick a ball in the field of smartwatches with its aptly named but ultimately underwhelming SmartWatch back in 2012. The Sony SmartBand Talk SWR30 is beautifully...

Simple and unfussy design, clear E Ink display, comfortable to wear, unobtrustive notifications, calls sound good (if that's what you want)

Battery could be better, access to notifications limited, activity tracking is basic, can only have one favourite contact for calling

The Sony SmartBand Talk SWR30 is beautifully designed, comfortable to wear and succeeds on its namesake's aim to enable calls on your wrist too. But it doesn't quite thrill in any one department.

Sony SmartBand Talk review

A simple combo minus the fancy smartwatch features

Light and comfortable ; Simple to use ; E-ink screen great in daylight

Short three day battery life ; Limited smart capabilities ; No heartrate sensor or altimeter ; A bit expensive

An intriguing product, but one that's hard to work out if anyone will actually want it.

Sony SmartBand Talk review

The SmartBand Talk is one of Sony's new entries into the wearable tech market. It's more of a fitness band hybrid than a fully-fledged smartwatch, but it also allows you to make and take phone calls (hence the 'Talk' in its name). We've spent some time...

It's worth noting, though, that the Sony SmartWatch 3 can be found for just £50 more, so if you're after SmartWatch functionality more than fitness tracking it's definitely worth investigating before making the decision to buy the SmartBand Talk.

Sony SmartBand Talk review: A fitness tracker that's actually useful

The world is awash with fitness bands, each one promising to help you make sense of your workouts, track how well you're doing and spur you on when your willpower flags. With so many options available from so many different companies, it's difficult...
