Jawbone UP3 review: 3 months with Jawbone's best fitness tracker

The UP3 gleans data on your physiology and then offers insights on how to be more active, eat better, sleep better and live better.

One of the smallest designs for a fitness tracker ; 5-day battery life with half hour recharge time ; The ability to log workouts and food ; Smart Coach makes data on your physiology easy to understand ; Calculates resting heart rate ; Splash resistant...

Nothing. Maybe the charging method could be better

Jawbone UP3

As I've mentioned in my updated UP2 review, since reviewing the UP3, Jawbone has introduced a second generation version of its heart rate monitor-packing fitness tracker, just months after launching the first one. Confused? Don't worry, I don't blame you.

Sleek, attractive design ; Useful smart coach ; Strong third party app support

Clasp regularly becomes loose but addressed with new version ; Difficult to switch between tracking modes ; Some ocassional syncing issues

Even with the extra features added by the latest firmware update, the Jawbone UP3 has a fundamental flaw with its design and that's really disappointing.

Jawbone Up3 review: a feature-packed disappointment

The Up3 offers only minor improvements over Jawbone's last model. And the few new features aren't very useful at all, especially when compared to what others offer in its near-$200 price range.

Elegantdesign ; Comfortable to wear ; Advanced sleep and movement tracking ; Battery life lasts a week

New features like heart-rate monitoring aren't that useful ; Expensive for what you get ; Still no built-in display

In the end, it's easy to be disappointed by the Up3. Even after its long delay and the omission of waterproofing, it still had the potential to be a different sort of fitness tracker. Unfortunately, it offers only minor improvements over Jawbone's last...

Jawbone UP3

The Jawbone UP3 tracks activity and sleep, and a new Smart Coach feature in the UP app gives you health advice based on your good and bad habits. While it does measure resting heart rate, it's short on other features, especially considering the price.

Stylish. Comfortable. Measures resting heart rate. Helpful Smart Coach feature. Good sleep monitoring.

Doesn't measure heart rate on demand or during activity. No real display. Finicky tap input mechanism. Not swim-proof.

A Better UP, but Missing FeaturesThe Jawbone UP3 is better than the older versions of the UP bands, but compared with similar fitness trackers, it's light on features for the price. Without heart rate on demand or during activities, the heart rate...

Jawbone Up3 review: Don't spend up for this one

A thin fitness band that measures heart rate, but it doesn't do it the way you expect. We wore a Jawbone Up3 for two weeks for the definitive verdict.

Compact band design; one-week battery life; fantastic fitness app for coaching and lifestyle tracking.

No on-band display means you need to check phone for stats; band clasp difficult to adjust; heart rate limited to resting heart rate and sleep tracking at night. Can't be worn swimming.

The Up3 is one of the smallest super-slim fitness bands around, but its lack of a display and limited heart rate tracking aren't worth the high price.

Review: Jawbone Up3

Six months ago, Jawbone promised the world. Then it built a step tracker.

Wrist-worn wearable reads your heart rate, counts your steps, and tracks your sleep. Buzzes gently to awaken you at the optimal point in your sleep cycle. Nice slim design fits comfortably next to your wristwatch. It's OK to wear it in the shower....

For all the data it collects, the software doesn't offer enough suggestions to improve your habits. Accuracy is often lacking. $180 cost is too high -- the $100 Up2 does almost all of the same stuff, and the features exclusive to the Up3 are the ones...

Jawbone Up3 review: just buy an Up2

Jawbone's back. After months of delays (that didn't go unnoticed by customers), its latest flagship fitness tracker, the Up3, is finally shipping. It's "the world's most advanced tracker,"...

More informative sleep tracking than the Up2 ; Weeklong battery life ; Excellent and motivating mobile app

The silver one is ugly ; Gives only resting heart rate ; Terrible clasp ; Not truly waterproof

Jawbone UP3 review: is this attractive lifestyle band a worthy rival to Fitbit Charge HR?

Stylish and packed with sensory tech, but does the Jawbone UP3 justify its relatively high price?

Stylish ; slim ; discreet build ; Good step and sleep tracking ; Not bad battery life

Dodgy charger and clasp ; Doesn't track much else ; Feels overpriced

Jawbone UP3 review: Up there with the best of them?

There are plenty of fitness tracking devices available these days and Jawbone's Up series has been one of our go-to favourites. Now in its third generation, the Up3 is more capable than ever before. The Jawbone UP3 is a great device for the Average...

Great design, good battery life, brilliant app platform, superior sleep tracking, lots of extra features, accurate step tracking

Activities requires more user input than others, only resting heart rate, doesn't always recognise when exercising, fastening not as secure as competitors

The Jawbone UP3 is a great device for the Average Joe, one that can be worn all day and night, but it isn't necessarily going to be the best suited for everyone. It comes down to what you are looking for in an activity tracker.

Jawbone UP3 review

Heaps of data, cleverly presented: the UP3 could be the answer to your motion-motivating dreams

Eminently wearable ; Intelligently integrated data handling and delivery through partner app ; Unobtrusive in form and function

Splashproof, not waterproof ; Fiddly strap clasp ; Frustratingly short charging cable

A truly wearable wearable: meaningful motion data in a sleek and stylish package
